Let’s pick on someone else

I haven’t picked on Johnny Damon in a while.   It’s pretty much shooting fish in a barrel.  But he has an interesting quote in today’s Globe about the fans and their reaction to ARod:

"What’s amazing is the fans thought about what they were going to do all day instead of enjoying the nice weather. They worried about that all day . . . but hey, if that floats their boat, then that’s fine."

Now, either Johnny IS that stupid and doesn’t remember what he said back in May of last year, or it’s the only thing he knows to use to ‘battle’ Red Sox fans.  When Johnny came back to Fenway in 2006, here is what he had to say about the fans booing him:

"These guys were planning their lives around what I do, which is pretty amazing.  Thanks for caring so much. They didn’t care about cheering on their team, all they cared about was booing me. If that’s what they want to do, so be it. I’d rather be cheering for Big Papi than booing me."

And, yet again, Johnny tries to make it seem like all Sox fans did was focus on booing (him last year and ARod this year).  What’s funny is, if these quotes came from someone who had never played in Boston, I could understand it.  But Johnny knows very well what the fans are like.  He knows that it isn’t rocket science to walk and chew gum at the same time.  Although HE probably can’t do it.  So he tries to use these quotes to make the fans sound bad because they know what phonies he and ARod are, when all he succeeds in doing is sounding like an idiot.  Once again.

Another interesting quote is from Joe Torre.  But this isn’t about the fans, it’s about ARod yelling  "Mine!":

"It’s probably something he shouldn’t have done.  But it’s over with. What the hell else are you going to do? I don’t sense he’s going to do it again. I think just the reaction probably told him that. He may have been excited about the fact that we were leading the ballgame, going around toward third base. It was probably inappropriate to do it at the time he did it, but you can’t change it, unfortunately."

So, regardless of what the Tommy Lasoradas, Jim Palmers, Jerry Remys, and Charlie Sheens of the world say, ARod’s own MANAGER thought it was a lousy thing to do.  Interesting.

Being Sox/Yanks weekend my plans for the next two days are to watch baseball.  Big surprise, I know.  So, at least today, I’m around for the long haul and will probably be posting a lot more in one day than usual.

Forewarned is forearmed don’t you know!
