All Quiet on the Mike Front

No news about Lowell or Timlin (except that Theo doesn’t think a Lowell deal will be in place before the GM meetings end) but I was encouraged by this blurb in today’s Globe:

Epstein said in the afternoon that he was going to meet with Boras "to talk about [Eric] Gagné and his whole list of free agents. He’s not a great fit for our bullpen right now, but I wouldn’t rule anything out."

"He’s not a great fit for our bullpen right now" – Thank you Baby Jesus!  Theo has seen the light!  🙂

Meanwhile, Johnny Damon, claiming the Yankees have promised him the left fielder and leadoff positions, is still trying to convince the world what a wonderful catch he is:

"I know teams would want a player like me. A guy who keeps the clubhouse loose. A guy who has been very durable and will be durable next year. I think everyone realized how important I was to the team last year once I got healthy. When I was in the lineup every day, I think our winning percentage was around .700. I think that’s a testament to the type of player that I am and the kind of stuff I can bring to the table. I think someone would have to [dazzle] them with an amazing offer."

We get it, Johnny.  You like you.  You really like you!

It’s funny…a year or so ago, the arrogance of this man who have set me off.  This morning, I’m laughing at how desperate and pathetic the boy sounds.  My how times change.

So we’re still on the Mike Lowell (and for me, the Mike Timlin) watch.  I know it only began, but it feels like it’s going to be a long Hot Stove season!

I leave you with another World Series celebration picture!
