While I used Mike Lowell to help get the taste of steroids out of our mouths, Red over at Surviving Grady used Dave Roberts. 🙂 I was at the game against San Francisco that marked Dave’s return to Boston – and Red posting the video of that triggered memories of all the great games I got to see this season.
I’m also watching the "Bonus" video of the World Series boxed set, and the highlights they chose are all from games I was fortunate enough to be at this year.
- Four consecutive home runs versus New York Yankees
- Kevin Youkilis’ inside-the-park home run on Memorial Day
- Last out of Clay Buchholz’ no-hitter
- David Ortiz’ walk-off home run in September versus the Tampa Bay Devil Rays (the last regular-season game I attended in 2007)
Add to that, the Dave Roberts returns game (and Youk’s in-the-park homer was during the Trot Nixon returns game), Clay Buchholz’ first game in MLB, Jon Lester’s first game back in Fenway (which also ended with a walk-off hit), Opening Day, Daisuke’s first game in MLB, Game 2 of the ALDS with Manny’s walk-off, Game 1 of the World Series…and those are just the ones I can list off the top of my head. (Given my poor memory, I did pretty well.)
It’s an embarrassment of riches as a Red Sox fan. And I’m not complaining at all. 🙂
On a note totally unrelated to baseball, Dan Fogelberg died today. To some he might have been just another ‘soft’ rock voice from the 70s/80s, but to me he was a ‘friend’. His music got a young Red Sox Chick through a lot of lousy times and hearing of his death hit me much harder than I ever would have expected. Rest in peace, Dan, and thanks.
