So did the team take Kyle out last night and get drunk? They’re sure playing like it.
In all honesty, my focus still really isn’t on the game or the team. I’m sure that will change a bit when I’m at Fenway on Tuesday. For now I will scowl when they show Julian Tavarez on NESN.
This coming week I’ll be at Fenway Tuesday through Thursday and then on Sunday as well – with a pit stop in the area on Saturday to hang with friends to celebrate the beginning of the season and the visit from our friend Tom – in again from England. Kyle had sort of become the group’s ‘player’ so it will be especially bittersweet. I’m hoping, since it’s being reported that Kyle is hoping to hook up with a team as a starter, that by the weekend we know where Kyle ends up so I know where I’m focusing some of my attention.
No coverage of anything from Kyle on the pre-game show. Which brings up another question I had about the situation. What does a player do? Show up at the park to watch a team he isn’t on any more, just so the press can get a sound byte? (I’m guessing he didn’t do this – good for him. Let the press pound sand.) I’m still hoping Kyle is at the ring ceremony on Tuesday. He most certainly deserves to be there – he’s definitely earned it. And, yes I know I’m a goof, it’d be nice to ‘say goodbye’.
Well, nice isn’t the right word, but you all know what I mean.
I know, I’m 39 going on 80, I’m such an old lady.  I just want to give him a hug and tell him he should be proud of what he’s accomplished and he has a lot to look forward to.
I can’t remember if I warned you all that there might be a few more Kyle posts. I need to work through it. Welcome to my therapy! ;D
(Jason Varitek just homered to tie the game. Nice to see being Player of the Week worked better for Tek than it did for Kyle)
Man, I haven’t even checked the Yankees score – I’m slipping.
Lest you all think I’m wandering around the house in my pajamas and taking slugs out of a bottle of gin – I’m not. I know that this happens in baseball and it’s the price you pay for favoring any individual player. But I’m still extremely bummed and hoping wherever Kyle ends up, it’s where he wants to be.
(As punctuation on this shitty weekend – Little Manny just gave up a grand slam to Frank Thomas on one pitch. And Frank Thomas took a, deserved, curtain call. Take note, Yankees fans. A grand slam? Damn fine time for a curtain call.)
Maybe I’ll just get it over with and go get drunk?
