So I’m walking down Brookline Ave and see an empty cab. Luck is with me, right? I walk over to the driver and he tells me he’s waiting for someone. I thank him and start to walk away. Maybe because I was polite, he asks me where I’m going. I barely get the name of my town out when he tells me to get in. 🙂 Luck was with me going home…not so much at the game, but what are you going to do?
I sometimes use the cab ride home from a game to figure out what I’m going to blog about. So while I decide to write about how fantastic Wang pitched tonight, the cab driver puts on “Planet Mikey” on WEEI and I get to spend my cab ride home listening to the whiny jackasses who call into that show. It’s amazing what idiot fans do for my mood.
You know what folks? Wang pitched a hell of a game. Pretty much end of the story. Accept it. It’s over. Move on. (And we got a pretty darn good outing from Clay. That was worth the night in itself!) Highlight of the night, for me, was most definitely JD’s homer. Keep them coming, JD!
The weather was damn good tonight. At least under cover in section 26. 🙂 Not too cold and we didn’t get rained on. Made for a very enjoyable evening, in spite of the loss. I am starting to get concerned about how many more games at Fenway I’ll be able to attend. I can’t remember if I’ve ever written about my seafood allergy here, but it’s so strong that if I’m just around seafood (I don’t even have to ingest it) I start to have a reaction. With them selling clam chowder in the stands now, this is the second night out of the four that I’ve exhibited allergic symptoms after the game. (Actually, tonight they started during the game. Still feeling them a little now. Popped a Claritin at the game. Might need to go take a shot of something – alcohol seems to help.) I’m sad that my stupid allergy might actually force me out of Fenway. Sometimes there are things that help. The Claritin or Benadryl, alcohol, fresh air. But nothing really helped tonight. Oh well…I’ll worry about that more later.
Came home to see no new news on Kyle Snyder being traded. Last thing I read was they were guessing it would happen next week. I can’t imagine being Kyle and hanging around waiting for someone else to decide your fate. Well, if reports are true, he’s home in Sarasota and hopefully relaxing and realizing that his dismissal from the team was more of a business move than a reflection on him as a player or a person.
Not that knowing that makes ME any happier about it.
There wasn’t the same buzz at the park tonight. It didn’t “feel” like this huge rivalry game. Even when it was over there was no feeling of “Crap! We just lost to the Yankees!” it was more just like, “Oh well, they can still win the series”. ESPN will be sad to learn that the evil rivalry stuff is just not as heavy as it has been. Heck, it felt like there were only as many Yankees fans in the park tonight as there were Tigers fans the night before. It doesn’t disappoint me. I’d be happy if all the networks canned this “Greatest Rivalry” crap and just let the teams play.
Tomorrow is another day. Beckett on the mound versus Mussina. Me and about 25 friends celebrating the Sox and the arrival of our friend from overseas for the afternoon with my going to the game a distinct possibility.
I was home an hour early tonight than I have been the last two nights. That’s something to be happy about!
