Yes, I left early

They finally got to me. 🙂

Bottom of the sixth, between the cold and the fact that I fell asleep during at least one at-bat during the bottom of the fifth, I decide to go home. It wasn’t an easy decision (hey, I sat through the 2-hour rain delay and stayed!) but once I made it I was pleased with it.

Listened to the seventh on the way home and was in the house for the 8th. Yay cabs!

Random thoughts from the last week:

* The Red Sox show a video depicting the team “In the Community”. Who are, essentially, the main players shown doing various acts of charity in the 0ff-season? You guessed it: Kyle Snyder and Bryan Corey. Thanks for rubbing that in.

* They also show a video in which recycling is discussed. They show fans in the stands giving their Coca Cola CANS to volunteers who come around the park to pick up recyclables. There is no cola in cans sold in Fenway. Good eye, PR people.

* In the new bleacher seats, my feet no longer touch the ground. (I’m five-two.) So after years of saying I wasn’t uncomfortable in any of the seats at Fenway, I now have a section in which I am. 🙁

* Last night, a Yankees fan sat with his Red Sox fan two seats away from me. He yelled “Ef You” to every Sox fan he could, heckled the vendors, screamed obscenities at the Red Sox players, and then got mad when security came over and told him that swearing could get him kicked out of the park and he needed to cut it out. When security walked away he told his friend that “Fenway is for pussies”. Ask me again why I dislike more Yankees fans than I like. Because every time I go to a Sox/Yankees game in Boston, I come across fans like this guy. He was even giving some kids (yes KIDS) shit for having their dad get them foam fingers. If there was one downside to being at (most of) last night’s game, he was it.

* Jason Giambi has now hit two homeruns against Mike Timlin. Neither of which I acknowledge. Cheat, cheat, never beat.

* One more note about Yankees fans, more than just from the obnoxious guy, I kept hearing from others last night “At least it won’t be another 86 years for the Yanks!”. Apparently, this is their new battle cry and it pleases me greatly. Whatever helps you sleep, folks.

* I’ve seen two losses, almost four wins, each member of the rotation AND the bullpen and even all the bench players (save for Jed Lowrie who got called up on Thursday) and starters play. That is always my hope for the SEASON let alone the first week of play. SO I’m good. I don’t have another game scheduled until the weekend of the Brewers series in May (“Tedapalooza!”). I might just need all that time to recover from the weekend.

* For the most part (I’m so sorry Mike!) changing the PotW to the Bullpen is working out well!  I’m not worried about Mike yet -he’ll come around.  Just like last year.

And, finally, my weekly grouse about the media. I Google Kyle Snyder to see if there is any news on what is going on with him and I find a quote from David Aardsma. Actually, I find two quotes. I suppose it’s possible he said this twice and in two slightly different ways, but given when the game ended last night, I don’t imagine he hung around to gab THAT long. And they’re almost identical. Almost being the operative word here.

Here are the quotes. One from the Boston Herald:

“Snyder and Corey, they have great stuff,” Aardsma said. “Unfortunately, they ran into some tough innings and I got through some good ones. They’ll be just fine, but it definitely gives you confidence that a team like this believes in you and they want to keep you around.”

And the other from the Hartford Courant:

Snyder and Corey are great guys with great stuff,” Aardsma said. “It definitely gives you confidence that a team like this believes in you and they’re going to keep you around.”

You have a tape recorder or a video camera…how difficult is it to get the DIRECT quote? If someone (Courant or Herald or BOTH) messed up the direct quote about something basic like the above, how many other quotes have they screwed up? It’s more believable to me every day when players say they were misquoted. Sheez.

After being swept in Toronto, the Sox bounce back taking a series from the Tigers and then from the Yankees. Not too shabby.

Team is in Cleveland tonight and then New York on Thursday. 7:05pm games I can watch from home – yay! 😆

I had a fabulous week. As I said yesterday, due in part to very generous friends. I hope everyone had as good a time as I did.
