So yesterday I watched “The Ref” on Netflix. I wasn’t purposely looking for a Christmas movie, but I saw it listed, remembered how much I liked it and figured it was a good way to kill ninety minutes or so.
Today, I had a couple of hours alone and was caught up with everything I needed to do so I thought I’d put on a movie. I ended up watching “Christmas in Connecticut” with Barbara Stanwyck, a movie I’d never seen before.
It was funny and romantic in a way movies were funny and romantic in the 1940s, but I’d argue that the original “Die Hard” was more of a Christmas movie than this one. (It takes place at Christmas and there is a Christmas tree and snow and Dennis Morgan sings a piece of “O Little Town of Bethlehem” – that’s pretty much all the Christmas we get.)
So in spite of the movie not exactly being Christmassy, I really enjoyed it. I’m not always sucked in by sappy movie love stories, but I totally bought this one. So it was time well spent.
I’m hoping to get in one Christmas movie a day until Christmas and since I kind of unconsciously started on the Monday before Thanksgiving, I’ll be putting in more than twelve or twenty-five days – so I might have to get a bit creative.
