Well the good news is that the Sox are 4.5 games in first place. Embedded Red Sox pitcher Alan Embree helped the cause by giving up a homerun in relief. Thanks, Alan. I take back all those bad things I wrote (or at least THOUGHT) about you after you donned the pinstripes.
More good news in that Billy Mueller looked good tonight. Smacking a homerun, moving around the field…hopefully the back spasms are gone for good (or at least a long while). (Tito was just on TV saying Mueller "didn’t feel great" today…that makes me nervous.)
Mike Timlin looked good too! But Mike Remlinger…I mean, what the heck? I could pitch better than that for Pete’s sake! Someone needs to explain to me what the thinking was behind picking him up. I mean, why didn’t they just keep Embree??
Schill looked good as well. But I still want to see him STARTING games, not CLOSING them.
Edgar…what can I say? 21 errors. Leads the league. Woo-hoo.
But he did knock in the winning run. I’ll give him some love tonight.
Hazel Mae just told Tito that she thought Matt Clement had better command of the strike zone. Who is feeding her this stuff? There’s no way she "thought" that. No way.
(Nomar hit his first homerun of the year today and the Cubs still lost…I get a wee bit of joy from that news)
Ever since the Minnesota series last weekend, this team’s defense has looked like shite. A win is a win and I’ll take one any way we can get one…but they aren’t going to continue to eke these out if they don’t tighten up their fundamentals.
Matt Clement did a good job tonight, it’s too bad he didn’t get the win. I know they’re friends, and Matt is way too good a person for this, but he should punch Remlinger dead in the face. Just once. Kind of a "Hey, welcome to Boston. Blow my lead again and I’ll have Millar knee you in the nuts" gesture.
A gal can dream can’t she?
4.5 ahead. There will be sweet dreams tonight.
