Randomly rambling:
Why does it annoy me that in the commercial NESN is running for the next Yankees/Red Sox series they use Don Orsillo’s “You kidding me??” from the Rangers/Red Sox game last year? The implication is that he said it during some wild Sox/Yanks game. He didn’t. It was during a wild Sox/Rangers game. No shame in that. It isn’t Don Orsillo’s fault that the Rangers game was more exciting than the Yankees games last year.
I’m generally not a worrier. I’m a procrastinator and that includes when it comes to worrying. I think about worrying and then put it out of my mind until the time comes when it becomes a concern not a worry (or it just goes away!). So I’m trying to not focus to much on it, but I’m damn worried about Jerry Remy. Word is that he left Tampa to go home and won’t be back with NESN until next Wednesday. (Which means no Remy for the Yankees series. I’m hoping this means we get Dave Roberts for the Yankees series because if I have to keep listening to Buck Martinez mispronounce the name ORTIZ I might kill someone.) I don’t even want to think about what I worry is wrong with Remy so I’ll just say that I’m praying for him and hope everything is all right and all right very soon.
As I’m writing this, the Sox just lost game 2 to the Rays. I’d love to be more bothered by this. I’d love to be able to type some rant about how we should be worrying about our rotation but I’m just not built that way. So if you’re here looking to read a long diatribe about the ills of the Red Sox starting pitching, you’re out of luck. I’m not happy they lost but it’s easy to change your goals. I wanted them to win the series. Now I’ll be happy with a split.
I need to make a correction on the information I shared about my upcoming appearance on “The Baseball Show” this Saturday (either tomorrow or today depending on when you read this!) morning. The show is on from 9am to 12pm and the segment I’m part of will be on around 9:55am. You can see it on Comcast SportsNet New England or you can listen to it on WEEI Radio (or on weei.com) but it won’t be available on Comcast’s web site as I had originally thought. Also, it’s a one-time gig that I’m told will last about a minute. Is it bad form if I use my minute to ask Lou Merloni why he let a golden opportunity to punch Ben Affleck go by? (You realize that I have no idea if I’ll speak to Lou Merloni, right? A gal can hope, okay?)
Sunday I’m heading to McCoy to see Clay Buchholz pitch against the Gwinnett Braves. If my crappy memory serves, this will be the first time I’ve seen Clay pitch since 2007 and I’m really looking forward to it (did I see him pitch last year? I really can’t remember.). It also means I’ll miss Brad Penny pitch against the Rays since the PawSox game starts about a half an hour before the Red Sox game does. Yes, I’m all broken up about it. (I hate picking on Penny. It isn’t like he wants to stink. Maybe it’ll be good for both of us for me to not watch him pitch?)
For those who have asked, I DO intend to keep live blogging on Wednesdays. And I’m working on that pesky troll problem. The next live blogged game should be Justin Masterson pitching against Carl Pavano and the Indians. That could be fun!
Yes, I still keep tabs on Bronson Arroyo. Carpal Tunnel or not, dude is pitching pretty damn well. Friday night he went 8 scoreless innings while giving up four hits, three walks and striking out four. Red Sox lost. PawSox lost. Bisons lost (and then got rained out again!) and the Yankees won in a walk-off. Bronson’s my only baseball bright spot tonight.
Wait, that’s not entirely true. The PawSox lost but Michael Bowden pitched six scoreless, one-hit, innings (unfortunately giving up two runs in the seventh. The Braves won 2-0 on three hits!). Bowden’s ERA is 1.35. He has 17 strike outs in 20 innings and he’s only given up three runs. Kid is on fire. It’s too bad he got the loss tonight. A few runs scored by the PawSox and he’d have a 2-0 record. So Bronson and Bowden have salvaged my baseball evening.
7:08pm start on Saturday night. 7:08? WTH? Who comes up with these start times? Anyway, we get Tim Wakefield, forced into the role of “stopper”, yet again, pitching against Jeff Niemann. A win wold be nice. Really, really nice.
