One quick note about Mike Timlin. Again, to my surprise, a decent article comes out of the Boston Herald. The gist is basically that Mike Timlin, who could have played the veteran card and refused to go on the DL, went on the DL to get another arm in the bullpen. Not a major story, maybe, but in this age where the media goes out of their way to only find the negative – and where I go out of my way to complain about it – it’s only fair to point out when they don’t take the cheap shot and actually produce a piece worth reading.
Don Orsillo and Jerry Remy also reported last night that Timlin inquired to Francona about making a rehab start or two. David Wells could learn something from Mr. Timlin.
Timlin also makes no excuses. He had this to say in regard to blaming his arm woes on the WBC:
“It could’ve been a contributing factor; we don’t know. “I didn’t have a normal spring. I pitched in a career-high 81 games (in 2005), but it could be I’m 40 years old and the recovery factor is not as quick. There are all kinds of guesses out there and that’s exactly what they are, guesses.â€
Hurry back, Mike. The team needs you. For more than just your pitching arm.
