Tim Wakefield – 2-1 on the season. He’s only given up 3 earned runs thus far. He looked amazing. So nice to see.
AND it took a while, but the Sox got him some runs. And Mr. Julio Lugo flashed his leather big time! Oh and Mike Lowell, Doug Mirabelli and some guy named Ortiz all hit home runs.
Brendan Donnelly pitched a perfect inning and Papelbon, along with giving up a base hit and a walk, struck out the side in the ninth. Are there still people out there who deny he’s the real deal?
I don’t care if we’re only 13 games into the season – I’m very happy with the pitching. Fellas are looking hot.
Speaking of pitching, my boy Jon Lester is coming along nicely! He’ll be pitching one final game on Friday for Greenville and then he’ll be back in Boston pitching a side session on Sunday…and then he’ll most likely be going to Pawtucket! I absolutely can’t wait to see him back in Fenway!
I’ll be back at Fenway, unexpectedly, Sunday night. I’ll get to see Matsuzaka pitch against the Yankees – so I’m pretty stoked for that. If you’re holding tickets for Friday night’s game, you’ll get to see the Red Sox honor Red Auerbach. Let’s hope it doesn’t rain on them again.
Two games in a row, Doug Mirabelli homers and gets a hit to knock in a run…helping his pitcher out yet again. Make all the jokes you want about how Mirabelli owes Wakefield for the rest of his life, but Wake really considers him special, important and a big part of HIS career. So we’ll take him!
Congratulations to Mark Buehrle for pitching the first no-hitter of the season in 106 pitches! From the highlights I saw, his defense had a bit to do with it as well. Great game, Mark!
The All Star ballot is out. Three weeks into the season. This just kills me. How anyone, who doesn’t just vote their team all the way down the line, can vote for the all stars is beyond me. Yet another brilliant marketing move by MLB. ASG is in a National League park again, so Papi is on the ballot for first base.
I won’t be casting my votes until closer to the all star break, but I’m pretty sure he’ll be on my ballot. 🙂
Unrelated to the Sox, I settled in last night to watch the Mariners game because Felix Hernandez was pitching. Five batters and two runs into the first inning, he left the game with what was later called "elbow tightness". I have NOTHING to base this on and I hope I’mwrong (and probably am) but watching him on the mound and then when he LEFT the mound, it looked more to me like a bruised ego than anything else. Man, I’m getting cynical.
Speaking of which…ARod hit his ninth home run of the season last night and the Yankee fan called for their 30th curtain call of the season. Oh Alex, will they still love you after this weekend in Boston?
12:37pm start time for the game today. These random start times just slay me. I won’t be able to really pay attention to it, but I’ll have it on Game Day in the background at work today.
How about some run support for our Batshit, boys? Here’s to Julian having a great game!
