The Captain went 4-4. Before getting hit AGAIN, Youk went 3-3 (both included home runs). Mike Lowell got another home run (putting him into the top ten in the league in RBI), Manny extended his hitting streak and even little Dustin Pedroia got his first home run of the season last night.
Oh and Josh Beckett didn’t do much. He just went 7 innings, giving up one run, striking out five and getting his 7th win (with no losses) – the best record in MLB. (He’s also the first Sox pitcher since Mickey Harris in 1946 to win his first seven starts.)
Keep saying he isn’t for real, Yankees fans and naysayers.
It was a fun game to watch. I love blow-outs. Don Orsillo making a paper airplane and throwing it out the window of the broadcast booth was classic Don and Jerry during a Sox ‘sure win’. We have the best broadcast team in MLB. I look forward to the games, not only for the baseball, but to see/hear what Don and Jerry will do next!
The only negative from last night? Kevin Youkilis getting plunked, yet again. I wouldn’t mind if he crowded the plate – he doesn’t. And I wouldn’t mind if he was a loud mouth who blasted other teams – he isn’t. There’s no reason for pitchers to continue to hit him except for his performance. I’m not big on intentionally hitting a guy, but if this keeps up, the Sox pitchers are going to have to start defending their first baseman.
Congratulations to Tito – last night marked his 300th win with the Red Sox. Way to go!
Daisuke on the mound tonight versus Ohka…this should be interesting.
