I’m usually giddy at the Red Sox sweeping a team – and this sweep does make me very happy. Especially when it ends a 5-1 road trip and the Sox have won 8 out of their last 10 games. But there comes a point where you have to feel a tad sorry for the Blue Jays. After losing 9 games in a row, they had to think they had the upper hand with Roy Halladay on the mound. Heck, they even opened the dome because Wake notoriously pitches well in closed stadiums. All for naught.
Timmy now has the best ERA in MLB (1.79), prompting my man Mike Timlin, according to the Boston Globe, to say, "I hope it lasts all year. I hope he wins the Cy Young."
Exactly what "SoxCruiser" said to us last night. 🙂
Speaking of my man Mike, the Globe has an introspective piece where he talks about his first game in MLB and what he hopes to accomplish before he retires. It’s interesting and a little telling. Mike seems to be feeling his ‘age’. Even so, he’s hoping to possibly come back for another season. I seem to be in the minority here, but I’d love to see it. I think he’s a great influence on the younger guys and can still be effective, even if not as the set-up guy.
We keep getting reminded that the last time the Red Sox started this hot (2002) they didn’t even make the playoffs. I worry not. I’ll enjoy this ride as long as it lasts and, unlike the naysayers who are convinced the Sox are heading for a fall (based on such current statistics as "because they have to" according to some interesting Yankees blogs and message boards)…I see them riding this hot streak for a while.
Special shout-out to Mike Lowell for getting his third home run in three games! Man, this team is fun to watch right now!
I’m at the game tonight in Manny-land again. Looking forward to seeing Kevin Millar – and to seeing Julian Tavarez keep the winning streak alive!
