Proof Enough?

I’ve received some interesting emails over the past month.  Most having to do with Daisuke.  Many fans of other teams were digging his ‘disappointing’ season thus far.  Being sure to tell me that he was a bust and wasn’t close to the money the Sox put out for him.  A lot of other messages were hammering home that ‘the Sox haven’t played a GOOD team yet’ (you Yankees fans are so hard on your team!) and playing a team like the Tigers would be the true test.

Let’s take stock in what happened tonight, shall we?

Matsuzaka threw a 124 pitch complete game, giving up 6 hits, 1 earned run, NO WALKS and getting 5 strike outs.  The run came on a Curtis Granderson bomb over the bullpen.

He did this all versus the Detroit Tigers.  The team with the second best record (after the Sox) in the American League.

And the Red Sox got 11 hits off of Nate Robertson, and four hits off of Bobby Seay for 7 runs.  JD Drew was the only Sox batter to not have a hit in the game, and Manny was the only player to get one hit, everyone else having two.

I’m not yet ready to hand over the Cy Young to Matsuzaka.  But these last two games he’s pitched have shown that he’s becoming much more comfortable with himself and his pitches.  He’s looking pretty damn good.  And there is no reason to think that he isn’t going to continue to look good or even get better.

And our batters?  Pretty much everyone is contributing right now.  Everyone is doing their job in the field, behind the plate, from the mound and the bullpen.

Two words people:  For Real.
