A little early to be hitting the Panic Button

wakemay15.jpgOkay, that stunk. Wake had a bad game of his own, coupled, again, with no run support.  Give credit to Justin Verlander and the rest of the Tigers for playing a great game.  But why panic?

In the Herald today, Steve Buckley is already wigging out because Timlin is on the DL (which, truly, hasn’t really hurt the team as of yet), Beckett might be headed there and Drew smashed himself up last night.

Do I want Beckett or Drew to hit the DL?  No.  Do I think it spells the end for the Sox?  Not at all.

How about some credit to Drew for going balls out last night, trying to make that catch?  Isn’t this the guy we heard doesn’t ‘hustle’?  I’d say he did some fair hustling last night.

I’m pretty sure no one thought playing Detroit would be a cake walk.  I’d much have preferred Wake get the win, especially with Tavarez on the mound tonight, but I’m not worrying that Wake’s performance last night spells the end of his or the team’s winning ways.

The fact that the fans are convinced pretty much every time this team goes out to play that they’re going to win, and that the team is too,  is what’s encouraging here.  One loss to a very good team, and a banged up right fielder, won’t be changing the prevailing attitudes in the clubhouse and in Red Sox Nation.

Julian Tavarez v Mike Maroth tonight…this one could be a long game.  🙂

Happy belated birthday to Josh Beckett!  Here’s hoping if he has to miss a start it’s only one!
