I’m thrilled at the way Gabbard pitched yesterday (and then the kid gets sent back down to AAA to make room for Manny Delcarmen….makes sense since Little Manny will be working out of the ‘pen. Worry not, Kason, you’ll be back!). And I’m even more thrilled that the Sox took the series. Now that they’ve taken the series both from Detroit and Atlanta (remember all the "Oh the real test will be when they play ‘winning teams’" talk?), are they going to get a little more respect and a little less "This can’t last?". Doubtful since two of the next three games will be televised on ESPN.
For those of you out of the NESN market, good luck with that. I suggest shutting off the volume. I’m still waiting for ONE writer, announcer, Yankees fan, to admit, say, that Bobby Abreu was playing well over his head last year and there is nothing wrong with him THIS year except that he’s reverting back to form. Ask a Phillies fan, they’ll tell you. But, no, it’s the Yankees and there must be something ‘wrong’ since all of their lineup up is in there and, save for the last two games, aren’t really hitting.
Wakefield, Tavarez and Schilling against Wang, Mussina and Pettitte. A couple of years ago that might have been intimidating, but right now it looks completely workable. I never ‘predict’ the game’s outcome, but I could see the team taking 2 of 3 here. And even if they don’t, even if they leave the Bronx having dropped 2 of 3, they’ll have dropped a game. For the first time in a long time, the Sox go into Yankee Stadium will ALL the pressure being on the Yankees. That’s a nice place to be.
Kick some butt, Timmy!
