Beautiful Sunday

tekshomerjune9.jpgFeeling truly lousy these days (Malaria, it’s Malaria, right?) so I will admit to having NOT watched most of the game last night.  I saw Julian’s bunt single and Lugo make the final out right after, and then passed out.  Not waking until just after 1am, to some insipid commercial.  That it wasn’t an infomercial made me think SportsDesk was on, so I woke myself up just enough to get the final score.  To my surprise, the game was still on, tied in the 10th…so, of course, I watched the rest.

Great to see JD breaking out finally….disheartening to see Lugo struggle so.  Jason Varitek is hitting .294 over the last ten games…and almost single-handedly won the game last night with 3 RBI.

Julian Tavarez pitched another good game (and got on base TWICE last night!).  Guy has been rock solid for us.  And all without pronouncements of a savior coming or handing over a bajillion dollars.

I "watched" Roger pitch on Game Day.  For those criticizing that the Red Sox are beating a National League West team, keep in mind the D’Backs are 36-27 on the year and only one game behind San Diego in the standings.  Roger Clemens beat a 26-36 team (the same team that is tied for second worst record in all of the National League, with the Washington Nationals) .

Julian’s line for the night:  6 innings, 6 hits, 3 runs/earned runs, 1 walk, 5 strike outs, 1 home run and a 5.25 ERA.

Clemens’ line for the game:  6 innings, 5 hits, 3 runs/earned runs, 2 walks, 7 strike outs, 0 home runs and a 4.50 ERA.

So to hear that Suzyn Waldman said that the players in the dugout cheered like they just won the World Series when Roger came off the mound?  Very satisfying.

Jon Lester had a pretty terrible outing in Pawtucket last night.  Pitched 2 2/3rds innings, giving up 3 runs, but, more importantly, he threw 70 pitches.  So the hopes of seeing him at Fenway for the Giants series are pretty much gone as he’ll most likely throw one more game for Pawtucket.  Be patient, Jon (and Sox fans).

4:40pm game, folks…(man I can’t wait until they’re back on the East Coast!!)…don’t miss it!
