Loved the off-day

Let’s not disappoint this man tonight, eh fellas?
Usually, I’m not a big fan of the day off. I want baseball, pretty much, every night. But the Sox just had a four-game losing streak (prior to Cur’s one-hitter), and ended the road trip weakly. So I was looking forward to knowing they were all getting a rest and I got to enjoy some non baseball-related fun last night with friends I haven’t seen in a while. (Sidenote:  Congratulations to Roxy on her graduation – I’m so proud! )

Rockies are in town this week, followed by the Giants. I’ll be at Fenway Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (admittedly bad timing on my part – I’ll be sleeping in on Saturday!)

This morning, Mike and Mike are all bent out of shape that USA Today chose the Red Sox winning the World Series in 2004 as the "Greatest Sports Story of the last 25 Years". They’re upset because Dale Earnhardt’s death clocked in at number 12. I guess that’s the beauty of lists. Anyone can make one. I made up a few back when I was on MLBlogs…so maybe it’s time for a new one here. I’ll have to think of an interesting list.

(Interesting to note that neither Mike nor Mike knew the meaning of "pervasiveness" even after someone gave them the definition. These guys get paid to be this obtuse.)

Jon Lester was taken off the DL yesteray and optioned to Pawtucket. I know he, and a lot of fans, were hoping he’d be brought up, but I think they’re making the right decision here. The issue, right now, isn’t our starting pitching, so why mess with it right now? Knowing Jon is down in Pawtucket, feeling ready to go, is a bonus. We know he’s there and if we need him he’s coming up. Meanwhile, he gets to keep improving in a much less stressful atmosphere. It’s never a bad idea to continue improving yourself, Jon.

Tim Wakefield v Aaron Cook tonight.

Say it with me folks: Run support, run support, run support…

(Final random thought…I had Persian food last night and absolutely loved it.  If you’re in Boston, go visit Marcello’s on Newbury Street!  I never recommend restaurants, but I loved this one!)
