Okay, first things first. I was at last night’s game. Between that and how busy work was yesterday and the mental stress I go through every July 31st, well, I came home from the game, turned on the laptop and passed out. So I didn’t post the poetry winner or anything about the seesaw of a day in Red Sox Nation. Rest assured, we do have a winner and that winner has been informed and has goodies coming to them as you read this. At some point this week, I’ll post the winning poem and the runner(s) up!
The game was painful to watch. Not much more to say there (except Papi came through big when we needed him to – yay!)
While I’m very happy at the trade, part of me really wishes we got a bench player as well/instead. If we have to go the rest of the season with Wily Mo and Eric Hinske, my entire head of hair will be white by mid-September.
I’m not all that worried about the Yankees gaining a game on the Sox. In the grand scheme of things, it’ll all work out. As they say, good pitching beats good hitting. And we just got some MORE damn good pitching.
Bienvenue, Eric Serge Gagné!
And a special shout out to Kason Gabbard. Thanks for not sucking, kid. You were a hell of a lot of fun to watch and I’ll always remember being at your complete game shut out with my wacky friends. Good luck in Texas!
Barry didn’t get his home run, nor did ARod and the stupid Mets couldn’t hold out long enough to give Glavine his 300th win (the only milestone of the 3 that I’m really looking forward to!). So it was a pretty uneventful night. 🙂
Julian Tavarez v Steve Trachsel tonight. For those who think the pitcher who gives up Barry’s home run is going to be lost in history, not only do I remember the date that McGwire hit his 62nd home run (how could you forget 9.8.98?), but I’ll always remember Trachsel being the guy he hit it off of. So Mark Hendrickson and Brad Tomko possibly have that to look forward to.
Filing under "that didn’t last very long", the Sox finally get a "Donnelly" on their team and he’s out for the season to get Tommy John surgery. Damn, Brendan, take care of that arm! Timlin pitched on the side yesterday and is, supposedly, available (and, more importantly, ready) to play tonight. Let’s hope so.
I said it to quite a few folks yesterday and I’ll ‘say’ it again. Yesterday was the first trade deadline in quite a while where I didn’t end up sad or mad about what transpired. Good job, Theo!
