Time to send out prayers to folks in Minneapolis. How frightening about that bridge collapsing. I have a friend who lives in Minneapolis and another who was supposed to be at the Twins game last night. Haven’t heard from either of them (the sistahs are waiting, ladies!). I’m still stunned and haven’t really taken it all in yet. Damn.
Wow, Mike and Mike just announced that the YES network is for sale. Very interesting as now the speculation is that the Yankees might be next. (The author of this piece is on Mike and Mike as I’m typing.) That’s a bit of a bombshell, eh? Basically, though, he says he thinks the team will be sold when George is ‘gone’. Not exactly going out on a limb, there, pallie.
I missed most of the game last night and picked it up just as the team came back to take the lead. I’m not happy at how they’re struggling with the bats lately, but I’ll take the win. Save for one bad pitch from Okajima, the bullpen looked great again. I almost feel like it’s time to start a "Don’t get rid of Kyle Snyder" campaign. I’ll keep you posted. 🙂
Okay, time to send the good karma around. Orders for another postcard shower have been issued. Here’s the ‘official’ notice from KellyJ:
Postcard shower for Wily Mo Pena (who was NOT dealt at the trade deadline) If anyone ever needed a postcard shower, Wily Mo does.
Get as many postcards as you can (at least 10) into the mail next week, so he’ll get them when the team comes back home on August 13.
Wily Mo Pena/ c/o Boston Red Sox/4 Yawkey Way/Boston, MA 02215
It’s tough for me too, folks. Wily Mo seems to do nothing but aggravate the hell out of me. But as Kelly put it, he’s still ours so it’s in our best interests (as well as HIS) for him to perform well. Let’s give him that boost he needs, eh?
More randomness: Bronson got tattooed last night. I watched it. I actually watched his outing instead of the Sox. I couldn’t help it. It was like watching train wreck. I felt terrible for him. Apparently, the MASN guys did too. They were convinced he was tipping his pitches. He’s been pitching well as of late, even though his w/l record doesn’t reflect that, and the announcers were stunned at how poorly he pitched. Poor dude. Reds lost again.
News about Rod Beck’s death indicate that it was probably due to his cocaine use. Addiction is a terrible thing, but let’s all remember that people make that initial decision to do this stuff. It’s terribly sad, how Beck’s life ended up, but like Josh Hancock before him, decisions he made in his life led him there, not anything anyone else did. RIP Rod. Let’s hope it’s better for you in the afterlife than it was while you were here.
And old friend Johnny Damon is bummed because Joe sat him out last night. He even hinted at wanting to ge traded. Once Jason Giambi gets back, that clubhouse is going to be one interesting place, baby! I love drama, I truly do.
Nice to see POS Brett Myers blow the game last night on a wild pitch. Karma, baby!
Afternoon game today, and the Sox are honoring Bobby Doerr who has said he won’t be making any more trips out here. So it’s a sad and happy day at the same time. If you have the chance, go out and give Bobby some love at the park today.
Tim Wakefield is on the mound today (HAPPY BIRTHDAY, TIMMY!!). You know what you need to do fellas. Don’t disappoint the guy on his birthday.
