What a fabulous night to be at the park! I was there with a bunch of friends (Including "Tru", who regularly comments here and four of my ‘sistahs’!) so I knew I’d have a good time regardless of the score.
But Wake ensured that we had a good time all around. He pitched six hitless innings and ended up pitching eight scoreless (with two hits) innings to help himself to a 14th win on the season (18th win lifetime over the Devil Rays – the best record against a single team -ever!).
While the offense tried to make us crazy, defensively, the guys helped Wake out. Eventually, they came around, though, and the three runs they got were enough to sustain Wake through eight and pave the way for Papelbon to shut them down in the 9th.
The game took two hours and forty-three minutes to play, so I was home in time to see replays (although, admittedly, fell asleep before they repeated the game!). I’m so proud of Wake. He’s so important to this team, and while you don’t want to call any games prior to September a ‘must win’, this one could certainly qualify as a ‘boy it would be really good if we could win’, and Wake came up big for us.
It was especially nice to be able to share such a special game with my friends. I only end up at about half the games I go to in a season with friends (hey, I live and die by the single tickets these days), and every time we get together at the park we have more fun than we did the last time! (Special thanks to SoxCruiser for scoring the tickets for us!)
Lester is on the mound tonight. Part of me is a bit concerned about that, especially since he’s going against Scott Kazmir, but part of me thinks that everything is aligning right now and his ‘return’ to Fenway is going to be another memorable one like last night. I’ll be there to see it. Kick some butt boys!
