More of this please! (Photo lifted from Yahoo! Sports)Last year, on this very same day (well the DATE was different, the 18th in 2006), the Red Sox played a double header. Against the Yankees. We all know how that worked out.
On that date, Boston was 3.5 games behind New York. Today, New York is 5.5 games behind Boston. The wheels had already started to fall off the team prior to that series, but many still look back to those 5 losses as what put the nails in the coffin that was the 2006 season.
That won’t happen today. 🙂
I was at that double-header and I’ll be at the double-header today. I was invited, back in April, by a dear friend to go to a Sunday game that got rained out and today is the make-up date for that game. Then, this week, another friend invited me to the evening’s game. We’re going to see Buchholz and Beckett against Santana and Lackey, and I really like our chances! (Special thanks to Pam and Kelly O for making my day o’ baseball possible!)
In ex-Sox player news, both Bronson Arroyo and Kason Gabbard are pitching tonight in games that I’ll miss. It might be the first Bronson game I’ve missed all season and Kason, hey, I wish the kid well, you know?
As it was this time last year, today is the day of the WEEI/NESN Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon. It’s a great cause that everyone can get behind, so please try and do your part!
Clay Buchholz’ major league debut at 1:05pm EST folks! I’m hoping it’ll be one for the record books! (But I’ll settle for a nice, neat, little win!)
