Face of the future!
I feel like we saw fifteen different pitchers on both sides last night. In an ironic twist, where the offense usually lets Matsuzaka down, they pulled his butt out of the fire last night. As everyone has noted, this is the definitive "winning ugly" game.
10-1 turned into a 13-10 game? Each team had 16 hits? Instead of focusing on the pitching woes, I choose to focus on the hitting and defense. Every Sox starter had a hit (hey, JD had 2 RBI!), Jacoby Ellsbury was flashing leather and motoring around the bases (along with having two hits and drawing a walk) – Mike Lowell extended his hitting streak to 16 games and knocked in his 100th RBI – just reinforcing to most of us that we want him back and Dustin Pedroia continued to make his case for Rookie of the Year.
So the Sox win, the Yanks lose, the lead in the division is back up to 7 and I’m very happy. It’s a nice way to start the week.
Reports are that Mike Timlin’s cleats from Friday’s game – his 1000th appearance – are heading to the Hall of Fame. How exciting that is for him; he must be thrilled!!! Congratulations, again, Mike!
Beckett v Halladay tonight. Over the next six days, I’ll be going to four games (including two in Baltimore) – it’s going to be a long, but fun, week!
