Teamwork

Well a win would have been nice, but I’m not complaining about a six game homestand where the Red Sox win four of the games (including a no-hitter!).  Sox did with the Orioles and Blue Jays what they had to do:  win the series.  (What I WILL complain about is the fact that Dustin Pedroia never got in the game.  8th inning was the perfect time for it and he sat on the bench.  I have to stop typing about it because it’s making me mad all over again.)

What I’m here to talk about today is the team and their attitude.  See, yesterday I googled Mike Timlin’s name, as I do every day (I used to have him on "Google Alerts" but I find that whoever puts together those alerts misses A LOT) and I found this article.   This genius, Tom Mogan, uses Eric Wilbur’s piece of trash about how the Sox won’t win the World Series to back up his arguments of how the Sox don’t have the right attitude this year.

He laments that Drew, Timlin, Wakefield, Snyder,  Mirabelli and Varitek don’t like to celebrate team victories.  He trots out the tired "Drew is too stoic" crap as well.  So I now direct you to Kelly O’Connor’s site, where you will see many pictures of Drew laughing and joking with his teammates and with the other team when he’s on base.  For example:

I don’t have time to print all the pictures I have or have seen of Tek celebrating.  I’ll just show you this one:

Drew, Varitek, Timlin, Wakefield, heck even Snyder are known to be serious and sometimes quiet. Doesn’t make any of them a bad teammate or without passion.   (Although, if you watch the bullpen during any game, any time someone stands near Timlin, he spends a lot of time talking animatedly.  We shouldn’t pretend we know how these guys feel just because we watch them on tv, I understand this.  Tom Mogan needs to understand this as well.)Here’s the actual quote from his piece:

Drew gets most of the heat for his stoic attitude, but there are others such as Mike Timlin, Tim Wakefield, Jason Varitek, Kyle Snyder and Doug Mirabelli who also act as though they are much too cool or self-absorbed to celebrate with their teammates.

Self-absorbed?  Jason Varitek?  Tim Wakefield?  Does this guy have any clue what he’s writing about or was he just trying to make deadline?  Some people should be dopeslapped with their keyboards and have their internet privileges taken away.  How’s this for a story about the cohesiveness of the team?

The support he received from his fellow pitchers was encouraging. The majority of the staff, led by Josh Beckett and Mike Timlin, stood around the batting cage to watch the session, and when it was over they acted as if he had just pitched a shutout.

Man this team is selfish.  I don’t know why we even bother to watch them anymore.

Regardless of the Sox losing and the Yanks winning last night, this team is good and they’re going to the playoffs.  Reading the crap that’s being written these days, because they don’t have much legitimate to gripe about, is going to get old this month.  And quickly.

Sox in Baltimore tonight through Sunday with no Manny.  Which bums me out since I’ll be there for 2 of the 4 games, but on the other hand it’ll give us more Jacoby time, so as long as the team keeps winning and Manny keeps healing it’ll all be good!
