Hidden in a New York Times piece that revolves around Terry Francona and Joe Torre, is this gem from my man Mike:
“Our guys are not living in the past,†reliever Mike Timlin said. “It’s different from 2004. There was a euphoria that carried over into the next year.
That doesn’t exist now.â€
Now, it’s been obvious that the Red Sox went into Spring Training without that same swagger they did in 2005. There weren’t as many television appearances. There were no autobiographies that made you want to drop a centerfielder off the top of the Prudential Center. It was as if, (gasp!), they had been there before. 🙂
I just like the visual of Mike laying down the law: “There will be NO happiness in the clubhouse! DO YOU HEAR ME? NO HAPPY!”. Plus, he used the word “euphoria”. Papelbon might give him grief for that.
Speaking of Pap, I’ll say here what I’ve said elsewhere: The kid deserves a raise at some point. And I hope the Sox give him one. But my deeper hope is that he decides to STFU about it with the media. I don’t care who you are, or who you think you are, you piss me off when you try to”negotiate” through the press. Stick a giant sock in it Jonathan. Thanks.
I’m almost positive I have the place as I like it now. Hopefully it all works for folks (formatting-wise I mean. I’m never going to make everyone happy with my color and style choices!) but I know you’ll let me hear it if it doesn’t!
Shout outs to the Red Sox Hen and JBG who are both laid up with the flu. (And a sidenote to God that I could really do WITHOUT getting sick again right now!)
Don’t forget, you can catch today’s 1:05pm game versus the Dodgers on ESPN. I’m sorry I’m going to miss it. Joe Torre back in a uniform that I don’t want to set on fire. Never thought I’d see the day.
Have a great day folks!
