As most folks who read this blog know, I tend to favor pitchers. So you’d think that means I enjoy a pitcher’s duel.
I don’t.
Can’t complain about Crabcakes last night. Kid pitched one-hit baseball for eight innings. Nice work.
And Roy Halladay pitched a hell of a game as well. But has anyone ever seen a poorer loser than “Doc” (incidentally NOT the namesake of my llama!)? Had the Blue Jays pounded the Sox in the ninth and won and our pitcher acted like Halladay, I would have been embarrassed for him and the team.
Even though stopping the bleeding and winning the game was fabulous (special shout out to Dustin Pedroia!), I’m still not happy with the offense.
Masterson, Buchholz, Beckett and now Lester have all pitched fantastic games and NONE of them have a “W” to prove it. This team needs to shake the cobwebs off and start raking. Sooner would be good fellas.
The reality of what is going on in my life right now is starting to kick in so it’s possible I’ll be posting less frequently for the rest of the week (or MORE frequently, to be honest, as the baseball games and my writing are good diversions and I’m nothing if not talented at avoidance). Thanks, again, for all the good wishes and kind thoughts.
Daisuke pitches tonight after missing a start because of the flu. Let’s hope he’s good and rested and the offense doesn’t spend another game sleeping.
One note about another pitcher, Bryan Corey. He was dfa’d, again, to make room for Mike Lowell. I feel for the guy, I certainly do (and it reinforces my belief that Kyle Snyder NOT getting called up yet was a good thing!) and Gordon Edes has a nice piece about him here. I wish the guy luck. How can you not?
But where’s our story about Kyle? (Hey, fair’s fair.) 🙂 His is one that’s compelling as well and given how things have changed for him since he was with the World Series team, it’d certainly be an interesting read. Get on it before you go, Gordo.
And last night was Bob Lobel’s last night on the air. I wish I could say “thanks” and “good luck” but all I can say is “hallelujah!”. Somewhere, Drew Bledsoe is smiling.
Speaking of smiling, yeah, I’m posting another Kyle photo. This one is from 2006, when he was starting with the Sox. It’s another Kelly O’Connor and I just like it because of what it represents for Kyle. Very cool.
