Indulge Me

BoSox tied the score and it’s the seventh inning. (Yay Mikey Two-Bags!) So while I watch sweet Javier Lopez give half of Red Sox Nation heart palpitations (he has two three outs, people, he’ll be fine), let me reflect on the beauty of a game that my guy Kyle Snyder pitched tonight. (I don’t have a good ‘name’ for Kyle. I have “My man Mike Timlin” and Lester is “Crabcakes”…I need a name for Kyle. But I digress.)

Kyle kicked ass, baby! (“Kick Ass Kyle”…that could work.)

He got his first win of the season (even though Abe Alvarez and Eric Hull, bless their little hearts, really REALLY tried to give it away in the ninth): 12-7 over the Durham Bulls and his line wasn’t too shabby. His ERA is now 3.80. He gave up 3 hits and 2 runs in 6 complete innings. And he struck out 6 of the 23 batters he faced and walked just one. Also, 50 of his 72 pitches were strikes. In his final inning, he hit first baseman Chris Richard just before striking out DH Dan Johnson to end the inning and his night.

I hope he’s out right now celebrating how great he did. The PawSox radio dudes were very impressed with how much he’s improved with each outing (and got their jabs in about how, prior to tonight, the offense really hasn’t helped him).

Over at PawSox.com, the ‘View from the Game” is Alex Cora. No love for Kyle over there. (Incidentally, Cora went 2-4 tonight.) That’s okay, I’ll keep the updates coming here. (Seriously. I need to petition the PawSox site for a job. I could do wonders with my hands in the pot over there – and not just in Kyle’s name either!)

Yanks lost tonight to Cliff Lee and the Indians. I mention this for a few reasons. One, of course, being for the schadenfreude. Another, because I have obviously not been following the Indians closely enough since I had no idea Lee was pitching so well. He has an ERA of 0.96 (yeah, yeah, ERA isn’t the end all of statistics for a pitcher, I know. What’s YOUR ERA, hmm? That’s what I thought.). And, finally, Cliff Lee might be the prettiest pitcher in MLB since Lenny Dinardo. (It could be three-way tie if you throw Javier Lopez in the mix.) They showed him in the dugout and he looked like a runway model. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. I’m just used to more rugged looking guys taking the mound (and, if I’m going to be ‘girly’ about it, I prefer rugged to pretty).

(I interrupt my ramblings to say YAY for Pedroia and his pinch-hit single that knocked JD Drew in to take the lead in the 8th!)

PawSox won (and, more importantly – yeah, yeah, team sport, whatever – KYLE pitched really well and WON!); Yankees lost; Red Sox are winning. Quite the satisfying night (in terms of baseball, anyway) all around.

Oh man…Lugo blows a double play and now there are two on and no out for Papelbon in the ninth. This will NOT kill my buzz…this will NOT kill my buzz…
