How’d I Get Here?

Red Sox take the series from Detroit and Joshua Patrick gets his 1,000th career strike out. Nice way to roll into Minnesota!

Last night, a waiter told me that his bartender didn’t know how to make a Kahlua Sombrero. (I asked for a “Roasted, Toasted Almond“, and then explained that it was a Kahlua Sombrero with Amaretto and Vodka. He came back for more clarification.) Kind of knew we wouldn’t be spending the night at that establishment. 🙂 So we ended up at the Baseball Tavern. And when we walked in there were only about 6 other people there and only one tv had the Sox game on. (“Tonight, we’re the Basketball Tavern!”) It was actually pretty cool having the ‘crowd’ cheering for the Celts and the Sox. We had a really fun, and late, night.

Seen at the Tavern. Yep, that’s the Rocket.  Thumbs up, folks!

So I’m working at half-speed this morning!

But I’m awake enough to realize Arlen Specter needs to get laid, or at least buy a Wii. Something, ANYTHING to give him something to do instead of obsess on the New England Patriots.

Being out as late (early?) as I was, forced me to miss Kason Gabbard throw at Richie Sexson and Sexson’s subsequent charging of the mound.

Gabbard was hit by Sexson in the back by a thrown helmet. Then he clashed with the Seattle first baseman before being buried under a pile of players. When the skirmish was over, Sexson was ejected, while Gabbard was allowed to continue. But he was able to pitch to just two batters before coming out of the game with what the Rangers described as general soreness.

Most of the soreness was in his legs. Gabbard’s bad back, which had put him on the disabled list after a two-inning scoreless outing in Boston on April 21, came through the melee without further damage. But this was his first start since coming off the disabled list, and the Rangers didn’t let him hang around long after the incident. He was done after a walk and a single.

“It looked like he was laboring out there, so we weren’t going to leave him out there,” Rangers manager Ron Washington said.

Gabbard declined to talk after the game, while the rest of the postgame testimony included the usual accusations and denials. The Rangers only know they had two hitters plunked by Mariners starter Felix Hernandez before Sexson came to the plate with two outs in the fourth. The Rangers were up, 4-0, at the time.

Gabbard’s first pitch was high, at eye-level, and Sexson, who is 6-foot-8, ducked away from the pitch even though it appeared over the plate, rather than inside.

The ESPN guys also seemed to think Sexson was making a bigger deal out of the pitch than he needed to. And now, seemingly because the Mariners were interested in bullying the Rangers, Gabbard could be hurt. Not the way to play the game, Sexson. (I mean REALLY, throwing your helmet?)

Crabcakes is on the mound tonight in Minnesota (game begins at 8:05 folks, not 7:05). He’s pitching well lately. More please.
