Sunshiney Goodness and Crappy Baseball

I ended up spending yesterday outside enjoying the day. Which means I didn’t watch Matsuzaka suck up the place and the Red Sox drop another one to the Cardinals.

It also means I missed the PawSox on NESN. A game that ended much better than the BoSox game did. (PawSox won 6-2 and David Pauley pitched 7 innings, striking out 5 and giving up the 2 runs on 5 hits. The bullpen pitched two hitless innings to finish up the game.)

Because I really wasn’t focusing on baseball yesterday, I missed the news (until late last night) that my man Mike Timlin was put on the 15-day DL.

It’s interesting to read the various accounts of this DL stint. Ian Browne at MLB.com writes:

It doesn’t sound as if Timlin will go that long before getting back on his throwing program.

Yet, Phil O’Neill at the Worcester Telegram & Gazette writes:

…you have to wonder if the veteran reliever can return and contribute to the Red Sox this season or if he’s finally finished.

Great. We get to spend the next two weeks hearing about how old and broken down Timlin is. It’ll be a nice distraction from reading about how old and broken down Timlin is. Sigh.

The Sox squandered the Yankees losses to the Reds by losing the series to the Cardinals. The Rays won in the ninth yesterday, so they’re a half game behind now. Anybody willing to consider them ‘for real’ now or are we waiting until after the All Star break?

And in the best news I could find this morning:

Right-hander Kyle Snyder, out with a right groin strain, has also been making progress. “He’s healing, feels real good,” Johnson said. “He’s playing catch. We’ll probably get him off the mound next week. And we’ll probably get him down to Florida and get him a couple times off the mound before we throw him back into the game.”

So, hey, Kyle’s on his way back and gets a detour home to finish up his rehab before he gets back to Pawtucket.  Woot!

Crabcakes is supposed to be our stopper today.  That should make me feel better than it does.
