Lazy Sunday

Up much later than I should have been this morning but, screw it, back to work tomorrow so I might as well be lazy today!

Before I write about anything else I need to give a huge shout-out to “Andy” who left a comment AND sent me an email last night about Kyle Snyder being back in Florida and pitching a couple of relief innings for the GCL Red Sox. I had been checking out the MiLB.com site all week (they still had him listed with Lowell although Lowell had taken him off their roster) but, admittedly, hadn’t checked it out since probably Thursday. So thanks, Andy, for the heads up and YAY Kyle’s back to pitching off the mound!

Kyle pitched two innings and gave up a single in each inning (the second one being erased by catcher Christian Vazquez getting him trying to steal). He also struck out three (two swinging) and got one hitter to line out and another to ground out.

So I am ridiculously happy that 1) someone has finally answered my pleas to help keep me updated on Kyle’s progress and especially 2) Kyle is back in Florida and pitching! I’m really happy for him. I would guess it’s been quite the frustrating season for Kyle, thus far, but if he can get the health issues he has worked out, there’s still time for him to make it back up here (or, heck, at least work it out down there and make sure that he’s totally healthy for next season).

Thanks, again, to Andy for the update (and keep them coming folks!)

I actually missed the entire first two innings of last night’s game…but Jason Bay seems to be eager to make his presence known in Boston, eh? I’m so happy for him. There’s always going to be a part of me that misses what Manny was to this team, but I really believe that his teammates had enough, and as sad as that makes me, that’s good enough for me.

Jed Lowrie is definitely trying to take advantage of Julio Lugo’s time on the DL. Yay!

Googling the Sox this morning, I came upon two items of interest from the Worcester Telegram & Gazette. One was about my man Mike Timlin:

At 42 years, 143 days, Mike Timlin on Friday became the oldest Sox pitcher to win a game since 1998 when Dennis Eckersley recorded his last career win at 43 years, 349 days.

Timlin has looked this season like age has caught up to him, but he was impressive on Friday when he collected his 30th relief win, tying Ike Delock for the fifth most in club history.

“That was good, we were excited,” Francona said. “The ball came out of his hand with some downward plane, with velocity. In the past, when Mike notices he’s not getting that downward action, he’ll try to force it. He’ll lean forward with his body and try to create it. He doesn’t command, and he leaves some balls flat.”

Timlin has the highest ERA in the bullpen (5.34), but he has given up just one run in his last eight games. He has a 1.04 ERA in that span.

He has made 1,039 relief appearances, second most all-time for a right-hander behind Kent Tekulve, who had 1,050.

The headline attached to this blurb is “Timlin still going”. Why not just write “Timlin, not sucky for an old guy”? 😡

I’m proud of Mike and couldn’t be happier that, as pretty much expected by ME anyway, he’s coming back around.

The other snipped from that site was about Manny Delcarmen. Not much too it but I found the intro to the item interesting:

Who knows why people do these things, but Manny Delcarmen is sporting a mohawk.

Seriously? That’s what you’re going with? “Who knows why people do these things”? I expected to read “But Manny Delcarmen decided to stop wearing his cup when he plays” or “But Manny Delcarmen traded his daughter to the Cubs in exchange for Lou Pinella’s jersey”.

Holy cow! Manny Delcarmen has a mowhawk!!!! He’s a WILD MAN!

Kudos to Lenny DiNardo for taking one for this team last night. After Eveland’s two innings of suck, Lenny pitched the entire rest of the game, giving up six hits and three runs (including Youk’s second one of the night) but he also saved the A’s bullpen. He did an admirable job that I hope the A’s fans really appreciate.

1:35pm (est) game today with Daisuke on the mound. He’s pitching against Dallas Braden. Dallas Braden is 24 years old and pitched 13 innings in July.

A sweep would be sweet fellas.
