So this is what I’m doing:
Listening to Kyle pitch and watching my man Mike Timlin pitch.
Photo of Kyle in Lowell back in July 2008 – taken by Kelly O’Connor
Kyle came into the game in the 7th inning with a man on second and one man out. He struck out Curtis Thigpen swinging and now he has Pedro Lopez with a 2-2 count. Meanwhile, Timlin has the first out of the 6th inning. (Woot! Kyle struck out Lopez looking to end the inning!)
The PawSox radio guys are saying Kyle looks good and that they think he’ll be a big help for the PawSox down this final stretch and hopefully for the BoSox as well. Now, as KellyO pointed out today, Kyle isn’t on the 40-man roster. So if he’s coming up in September, there’s going to have to be a move made somewhere. I’m still hoping for it. Kyle back in Fenway…hell, I’m there!
Mike Timlin has two outs….is it just one of those nights when the entire pitching staff is going to make me wish I had more alcohol in the house than I do?
(Incidentally, the PawSox are winning 8-4 while the BoSox are losing 11-5.)
————————————————–
Back for more. With two out, Timlin puts two on. Why do all the pitchers catch the suck when one of them get it? (Okay, he got the third out…6 innings over in Baltimore. Still 11-5.)
Kyle’s back out to start the 8th. After two strikeouts to end the 7th, he gets the first out (on a groundout to first) of the 8th.
I guess this IS live-bloggy. 🙂
Kyle just gave up a wall-double to Ben Coats. PawSox radio dudes think Coats dogged it believing he had a home run. (GameDay is a pitch ahead of the radio…makes for interesting “watching”.) Every time Kyle pitches, the radio guys mention that he’s “six-eight and two-hundred thirty pounds” two or three times AT LEAST. I’d hate it if someone followed me around at my job all day telling people how tall I was and how much I weighed.
Joe Thurston makes a kick-ass play and there are two outs with a guy on third! Yay Thurston! And then Kyle gets Russ Adams to fly out to Sean Danielson to end the inning. Great job, Kyle!
Oh yeah. It’s the 7th inning in Baltimore. 11-5, still, and the Sox have one on and two out. And now there are three. That was a waste of an inning.
10:13 – Okay…9th inning in Pawtucket and Kyle is back out there. 8th inning in Baltimore. Kyle gives up a lead-off single to Hector Luna and, I shit you not, Alex Cora is in the friggin’ bullpen in Baltimore. I’m thisclose to poking my eyes out.
Hey, cool trivia about Kyle! When he was four he was competitively swimming (and he lived in Saudi Arabia!). Learn something new every night listening to the PawSox radio guys. Meanwhile, Kyle gives up a single. Men on first and third. Kyle says swimming was his best sport but he burned out in high school. The PawSox radio guys totally have man-crushes on Kyle. It’s adorable. I’m dying.
Meanwhile, Kyle loads the bases and RJ leaves him in with no outs. I think RJ has a little crush on Kyle too. Six balls in a row from Kyle.
10:22 – Kyle has one out and has given up one run. The BoSox just scored a run on a double. 11-6 in the 8th. I’m guessing if they score a few more times, Alex Cora WON’T be coming into this game. Kyle just got out number two without giving up a run. RJ is taking Kyle out of the game and bringing in the lefty, Hunter Jones. Radio dudes say Kyle got a good round of applause – yay! Way to go, Kyle!
10:24 – Meanwhile in Baltimore, Pedroia pops up with two on. I sense we’ll be seeing Alex Cora. Good God.
10:27 – Thank the Baby Jesus (or whoever you choose to thank)…Okajima is back out for another inning.
10:28 – Hunter Jones ends the game with a strikeout and the magic number goes down to three. Jones gets his 7th save (does Kyle get a hold?) and David Pauley gets his 14th win and if the PawSox go 6-5 over the rest of the season, this team will hold the record for best regular-season record. Congrats to them all!!!
At 10:30, Oki has two outs and no one on. Sox need to score five to tie and six to take the lead in the ninth. Not totally crazy to think they can, especially with Papi, Youk and Bay up in the ninth. Let’s get out of the 8th first. (Holy cow…we are out of the 8th thanks to a fabulous catch by Pedroia!)
Well, that sucked. At least the PawSox won. Woo!
(And the Angels beat the Rays. So this loss I can live with. Sox won the series and that’s important. They didn’t lose any ground because the Rays won. I’m pretty darned okay with that.)
