Today Brian Daubach turns 37 years old. The first time I ever paid, what I considered to be, a large amount of money for a jersey, was when I bought a bootlegged Daubach jersey. Somewhere in my mess of things, I know there is a t-shirt that reads “Daubach is my Daddy!”. I have the pin too. I was a big fan of Dauber’s. He was no-nonsense. He showed up to play hard every day, didn’t bitch about his lack of playing time when he was in the midst of being platooned, and he would kick anyone around if he thought he was defending a teammate. So Brian is one of the players I’ll always favor.
And because of that, you all get the second installment of Five Fun Facts: Brian Daubach edition!
* Dauber was a replacement player during the 1994 strike (alongside such future Sox favorites as Kevin Millar and Brendan Donnelly)
* In 2009, he will be managing the American Defenders of New Hampshire (Formerly the Nashua Pride). Currently #51 for the American Defenders? Rich Garces.
* As part of the Red Sox roster in 2004, he received a championship ring
* He was drafted by the New York Mets in 1990 but didn’t make his major league debut until 1998 – with the Florida Marlins . In 2005, his last major league appearance was as a member of the Mets
* During his time with the Red Sox between 1999-2002, he hit at least 20 home runs each year. (In order: 21, 21, 22, 20)
