So I fell asleep.  It was the seventh inning and I fell asleep while the change from Michael Bowden to Rich Hill was being made.  My last thoughts before sleep found me were about how the media was going to make Bowden the goat and how I hoped Hill pitched well.  It never even crossed my mind that Hill would be getting his first win with the Red Sox in this game.

When I woke up, about 7am, my first thought was about how nice it was to not feel bad about a Red Sox loss.  I slept with the windows open and woke up to a nice breeze, sunshine and birds singing.  Beautiful day that wasn’t going to be marred because the Sox lost.  But I needed something to write about, so I went to boston.com and figured I could find something there.  Maybe today’s post would be about defending Bowden from the vipers, or about Jed Lowrie and his two home runs?  Instead I find this headline:

Oritz Comes up Big for Sox

Not what I was expecting.  And then I saw the score and, again, was surprised.  I never really believe the Red Sox will lose until the final out is made.  I’m one of those people who will sit (and has sat) at an 8-0 game in the 9th inning and cheer for the rally not just because that’s what you do but because I really always believe there’s a possibility of coming back.  So I reprimand myself publicly today for giving up, even if it was only giving up in my half-awake, half-asleep stupor that lead me to my dreams.

Six and a half games out of the wild card sounds almost doable with 17 left, huh?
