Yesterday’s entry about wine, and my confession of collecting needless items if they are related to the Red Sox, got me thinking about other things I have hanging around that, really, I nor anyone else should be keeping.
- As I mentioned yesterday, I have six…SIX bottles of wine that I will never open. Â The original three Red Sox wines (purchased in 2007) as well as Papi’s, Youk’s and Tek’s (purchased in 2008).
- I have a six-pack of Coca Cola in 8 ounce bottles celebrating the 2004 World Championship team. Â Given to me as a gift in 2004.
- An unopened can of Kevin Youkilis’ SlumpBuster energy drink (purchased, I think, in 2009 maybe late in 2008). Â Because it was the one without the offensive art on the can, I bought two…one to taste and one to keep. Â The taste really wasn’t that bad…).
- An empty bottle of Asahi Super Dry Beer that I got in New York in 2007 at Professor Thom’s. Â (Yes, I stole it after I emptied it!) Â Daisuke Matsuzaka famously did a Japanese commercial for it and I actually LIKED it. Â Of note, MLB Advanced Media claimed ownership of said commercial on YouTube and had it take down (presumably because, in it, Daisuke actually drinks the beer.)
- A Buddy Big League Red Sox doll (which now has a broken arm). Â Basically, it’s a 16′ bobblehead doll that sings “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” and chants “Swing batter batter”. Â Oh, he also dances.
- A giant Charlie Brown Pez dispenser that also sings “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” when you open it. Â Charlie Brown is wearing a Red Sox hat. Â The little pieces at the bottom that should be Charlie’s feet are broken.
Now these are only a few things that I came up with off the top of my head, but it gives you a good idea of my obsession. Â I also have a drawer full of past season pocket and magnetic schedules that I haven’t had the hear to dump yet. Â The more I type, the more things I think of. Â I have a “Daubach is my Daddy” t-shirt that I never wore will never wear. Â I have a mouse with the Red Sox logo on it that hasn’t worked since the day I bought it. Â I have a Coco Crisp t-shirt with a number on it that he didn’t wear.
Along with needing to learn to throw things away…I need to learn not to buy them in the first place!
I can’t be the only one…can I?
