Rally Monday!

1191284471_2700.jpgI’m watching the rally at City Hall Plaza on NESN right now (man, I love my dvr) because the Padres/Rockies game is getting me jumpy, and I have to admit, it’s a lot of fun (The rally, not the game.  The game was fun until I realized I wanted one of the teams to win and now it’s a bit too stressful for me).

Okay, Freddy "Boom Boom" Cannon, Ryan Reynolds (the country singer, not the Canadian actor), The Cowsills, The Standells and the Dropkick Murphys might not be the biggest names around, but surrounded by interviews with various players and the owners, it’s as entertaining as all heck.

And, hell, Peter Tork was there!  It’s always a good time when a Monkee shows up. πŸ™‚

But then they bring on a band called, I believe, The Johns, who do what is possibly the worst version of "Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band" and "A Day in the Life".  My ears, people, my ears.   Maybe it was just the sound system?  Yeah, let’s go with that.  πŸ™‚

I often give MLB a hard time, but I’ll admit that I enjoy the whole "Rally Monday" concept.  It’s a great way to get the fans even MORE pumped up for the playoffs, in spite of quotes like this one:

In Boston, Yankees fan Frank Iacono said teams should only celebrate winning a pennant or World Series. "This is a high school football pep rally," the Gloucester resident and Providence, R.I., native said while scanning the plaza Monday. "All this is for zero."

1191284471_7513.jpgFrank, genius, a rally is to show support for your team.  Maybe that’s a foreign concept to you, but around these parts, when the players do things like they did Friday night (coming out and celebrating with the fans) we like to give something back.  Is it so freaking horrible to want to have FUN?

(Side note to Tina Cervasio:  "Dirty Water" is played at the end of every game the Sox win.  "Sweet Caroline" is played in the middle of the 8th inning.  My six year-old niece who has only been to Fenway twice in her life knows this.  As someone who is there 81 times a year, you should know it as well.)

Padres/Rockies game is going into the 12th inning.  Folks are certainly getting their money’s worth from baseball tonight!

13th inning and Scott Hairston hits a two-run homer.  I’m sure Kelly just frightened her cats by yelling! πŸ™‚

Murphys are singing "Tessie" so I’m guessing the rally is over soon.  I should have used tonight to rest up for the rest of the week, instead I’m up at midnight watching a rally and following the Padres game on gameday.

What a handsome group of guys we have, huh?

Photos from the rally lifted from Boston.com (except the one of Clay, which was lifted from ESPN)

It all starts at 6:37pm on Wednesday folks – rest up for it! πŸ™‚
