Hot Stove’s Moving Along

According to published reports, oh just about EVERYWHERE, the Sox are close to a one-year deal with Curt Schilling.

When I initially heard this, I was a little disappointed.  Don’t get me wrong, the guy did fabulous things for this team in 2004 and 2007, but I wasn’t overjoyed at the prospect of him taking up a spot in the rotation, given the young arms we have out there.  But after reading more and especially the below blurb from Boston.com, I feel a little better about it.

The deal could contain some incentives, but it’s definitely one that’s team-friendly and one was which described by one source "he could have gotten a lot more in the open market, but it looks like he really wanted to stay in Boston."

Okay, so soon we’ll be hearing real details and getting confirmation.  Schilling certainly wasn’t top on my list of guys to re-sign, but at least things are getting going right away for the Sox at the GM meetings.

So, Theo, how ’bout getting that salt & pepper third baseman signed, eh?

And because it’s the off-season, I leave you with another photo of Kyle Snyder.  🙂  This one has a definite, Jim Craig"y", "Where’s my father" feel to it that made me tear up when I first saw it!  (and if you’re too young or just not up on Olympic trivia and don’t understand that reference,  Google is your friend!)
