Alex, I’ll take “Egomaniacal Pitchers and Sad, Desperate Front Offices” for $28 million

jtdm.jpgSo today was my ‘girly’ day.  Manicure, pedicure…all the fixins.  In the midst of this, I get a phone call from my father.

"Are you watching the game?"

"No, I’m at the salon."

"Did you hear the ‘breaking news’"?

"No.  Is everything all right?"

"Clemens.  He signed with the Yankees."

Silence while I try to decide if this is upsetting him or not and then my dad bursts out into a fit of laughter.

"Can you believe how desperate they are????"

I love my dad.

Profanity ahead.

Roger Clemens is a world-class douche bag.  Watching the Yankees/Mariners game on Fox yesterday, Ken Rosenthal came out and said that it was a no-brainer, if Clemens wants to win another World Series, he goes to the Red Sox.  Buck came back talking about how it wasn’t about money and McCarver responded with "If it isn’t about money, let him play for nothing.".

Tim McCarver has the Rocket’s number.

I’ve always been of the "I really don’t want him but if the Sox pick him up I’d be okay with that" mind set.   I was a fan of his when he was here and was sorely disappointed at the way he treated the fans when he left.  Then, watching him retire, come back, and basically jerk around MLB for these last couple of years, well, fuck him.  No one is bigger than the game.  I’m sure he’ll win some games for the Yankees.  I’m sure he’ll lose some too (probably against the Red Sox and the Indians at the very least).  What he won’t and can’t do is make the team something it isn’t.  Once again, Steinbrenner is throwing ridiculous money at a big name to put a band-aid on a gaping wound.

Here’s why Roger says he’s coming back:   "Let’s face it — these guys know how to win,"

Right.  They’re doing so much of that right now.  What they know how to do is bow down to you and let you walk all over them.    Words can’t express how thankful I am that he isn’t a Red Sox player again.

Oh yeah, Sox lost yesterday, won today.  Both good games with a lot of positives.  This team is good, people.  And the pitchers (Schilling and Tavarez most specifically) are right.  We don’t ‘need’ Clemens.  The Yankees, however, do.

How sweet is that
