Headachey Gabber

So very warm.

I spend late nights and early mornings reading baseball news to find things to blog about. Once I finish my rounds, if I have time, I Google various players to see what folks are writing about them. David Oritz, Kyle Snyder, Mike Timlin, JD Drew, Kevin Millar, Bronson Arroyo and more than a handful of others. Anything to spark something in me to write about.

In doing so today, I find a story on MLB.com that mentions “Kyle Snyder” and I’m curious because the link leads to a story about the Reds/D’Backs game and the line mentioning Kyle reads:

Mercker struck out first batter Kyle Snyder, who whiffed on a changeup.

And I think, “That can’t be right. I’m pretty sure I’d know if there were two Kyle Snyders in MLB” and remember back to a few days ago when I ranted about how to pronounce Kyle’s last name. I looked up how many “Snyders” there were in MLB. and noticed a “Chris Snyder” played for the Diamondbacks. So, of course, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com meant to write “Chris Snyder” and instead wrote “Kyle”. And it got published on MLB.com and no one, except me, seemed to notice because it’s still there.

These kind of mistakes on a rag-tag blog such a mine are one thing, but on MLB.com? Sloppy, sloppy, sloppy folks.

(Matt Stairs just got a hit off of Joba. I noticed no fist-pump or scream on that one. Michael Kay and Paul O’Neill are discussing Joba’s “emotion”. Michael Kay does not approve. Paul O’Neill is on the fence.)

Oh, wait, now Kay is defending Joba with “that’s how he acts”. Whatever.

Alex Rios flies out just to piss me off.

To continue my effort in making sure I’m warm at Fenway next week, I bought myself a Tito pullover today. I’m very pleased with it. 🙂

Sox get tonight off, then 3 days in Toronto, another day off and then it’s go time in Boston. If all goes according to plan, it seems we get Wake, Clay and Joshua Patrick pitching the weekend, which will give us Daisuke on opening day. I think I saw Daisuke pitch more last year than any other pitcher (in previous years it was Tim Wakefield who I saw more than any other – and before him, Pedro Martinez. I’ve been quite fortunate). Then it’ll be Jon Lester (God help us. Jon and I don’t have a good history together. Come to think of it, I think in each game I saw him pitch last year, he sucked but the team ended up winning anyway – and I was at the one-hitter he and Jonathan Papelbon threw in 2006 – still, me at a Lester game is a nervous chickie) and then Tim Wakefield (unless they throw someone else in there. Kyle? Are we going to see Kyle start? Or even Julian? Is Clay absolutely the number 5 guy now? Can we demand a recount?).

Watching the Yankees I realize that I actually, seriously, dislike Johnny Damon and Alex Rodriguez. It’s crazy. No one should dislike people they’ve never met as much as I seem to dislike these two. It’s a physical reaction I can’t even control. Granted, I have a bit of a headache which doesn’t help my mood, but each time they are shown on the television my entire body tenses up and I want to throw something at them. That can’t be good. 😆

The only games on “Extra Innings” tonight are the Yanks/Jays game and the Pirates/Braves game. Both of which are tied right now. This bodes well for me being able to get some sleep, but I much prefer falling asleep to the sound of a baseball game. Where’s Vin Scully when I need him?
