I’ve been trying to compose something about today’s game for the last hour or so and I’m coming up with nothing. During the game, I got a call that my uncle (who was pretty much raised like my brother) has fallen into a coma and most likely won’t make it through the weekend. (He had been sick for quite a while. The coma was a surprise, but we knew it was just a matter of time.) My mother and another uncle are on their way to Florida. So I’m having a little trouble focusing on baseball right now and ask our indulgence in the event I don’t post for a while (or my posts just ramble on, as this one just might).
Baseball is what I use as my ‘distraction’ from real-life. So right now I’m watching the Yankees/White Sox game. Well, at least I’m listening to it. I did get to listen to a good chunk of the game at work today. Forget the bullpen implosion (man the Player of the Week stuff really isn’t working for them!) and subsequent loss. The story today was how fabulous Justin Masterson pitched. How wonderful for him (and for the future of this team!). He should be very proud regardless of the fact that it didn’t end in a “win” for him.
Justin has now been sent back to Portland and Bryan Corey is coming up. I don’t suppose this bodes well for Corey, as it seems as soon as a roster spot needs to open up (I’m looking at Tuesday and Mike Lowell), he’ll probably be dfa’d again. Baseball can be a cruel business. So, with this in mind, I suppose I’m happy Kyle didn’t get the call to come up. (Although I’d really like to see him back up with the team!)
Friday my mother and father will be marking their 43rd anniversary. It’s the first anniversary they’ve had that they didn’t spend together and it really just compounds the sadness for us all. (Sorry this post is such a downer, but I needed to get it ‘out’.)
PVs and/or prayers for my mom (and the rest of the family) would be really appreciated.
