PawSox won again last night. This makes me very happy. Guys are on a tear right now. BoSox? Well, not so much.
But they tried for a comeback in the ninth and just fell short. So there’s that.
(Hey I’m “Editing to add…”! It’s after midnight – only one reading is probably John in NZ right now so no one else will notice – “Hi John!!” )
To add more to the Timlin update from earlier, we get this quote from ProJo:
“Honestly, I wasn’t throwing the ball well in Boston,†Timlin said. “That (injury) affected me more than I wanted to say.â€
All right, Ron Johnson, what did you do with our Admiral? Actually, I think this quote is fantastic. Not exactly your run of the mill Mike Timlin quote, is it? If he really feels like he was throwing the ball poorly in Boston (and, hell, we all know he was but he wasn’t giving any indications that he felt like he 1) needed to go on the dl or 2) should be in Pawtucket for a while. So I’m encouraged by his forthrightness regarding himself. And since he’s pitching so well right now, I’m looking forward to his return to Boston even more than I was before.
Speaking of RJ, he pulled Clay after 5 innings. Clay was kicking ass, but RJ was concerned because the field conditions were bad. Ron Johnson has to be one of my favorite managers ever. Couldn’t have been an easy decision but I’m glad he made it.
No Kyle mention. I’m guessing he’s still in Florida. Looking forward to HIS getting his butt back up as well. I’ll settle for Pawtucket right now (by way of Lowell, if the stories are to be believed!).
After I wrote the Timlin update, I was thinking about being annoyed by the Sox losing to the Rays and it occurred to me that I was going against one of my beliefs (in regard to baseball anyway). Ever since 2003, I’ve looked at the season a little differently. Instead of living and dying (so to speak) with each win or loss, I look down the road at how I think the season will end. Do I think that the Rays will win the division this year? I really don’t. I believe the Red Sox will. So what’s the big deal if the Sox are a game and a half out of first place on June 30th?
It’s annoying. And they lost another game I think they could have (should have?) won. But, if in the long run, this season turns out like last year (or 2004), what will this handful of losses matter? They won’t. So I’m not beating the team up over them and I’m not hitting the hay feeling terrible about my team. Way too early to get too down.
Wake is up next (followed by Daisuke). I like the chances for the Sox over the next two days.
