Impressive

I had an odd calm about me all day. Thought I’d be pissy and grumpy about the Tampa series and instead spent the better part of many baseball discussions talking about how “good” I felt about Lester pitching tonight. I can’t explain it still, but I was positive he was going to do well tonight. Considering I usually have scoffed when he’s been put in the position of “stopper”, no one was as surprised as I was that I was sure he’d come out on top.

Mind you, I didn’t have a clue he’d pitch as well as he did. Complete game shut out…in Yankee Stadium. Well done, Crabcakes, well done.

Melky Cabrera and Robinson Cano both got two hits off of Jon and Jeter got a hit as well. And that was it. He struck out 8 and walked 2. The night was a masterpiece. Keeping Damon, Abreu and Rodriguez off the bases was amazing to watch. And watching Yankee Stadium empty out early was a fun cherry on the top of the sundae of a night.

All the guys in the bullpen got to rest and the bats went wild – Julio Lugo was the only one in the lineup who didn’t have a hit (but he did get a run in!) – it was quite the convincing win.

Joshua Patrick takes the mound tomorrow at 1:05pm to, hopefully, make it two in a row. Small steps, folks, small steps.
