I’ve been neglecting the minors lately so here’s a brief rundown of some interesting tidbits:
* Michael Bowden, chosen for the Eastern League All-Star Game but who was going to be sitting at the request of the Red Sox, is now on the disabled list with a sore calf. With any luck we’ll be seeing him in Pawtucket soon.
* Bobby Kielty requested, and was granted, his release from the Red Sox yesterday. In the short time he was with the Sox, he made enough of an impact that he’ll always be remembered. Homeruns in a World Series will do that for a career. Good luck, Bobby!
* Justin Masterson had another relief appearance for Pawtucket yesterday. He faced three batters and got them all out (Strike out, ground out, line out – all against lefties).
* Through three games in the GCL, Kyle Snyder’s stats are: 5 innings pitched, 4 hits, 1 earned run, 6 strikeouts, no walks and a 1.80 ERA. I have yet to read an update on his health. Anyone?
* In the month of July, the PawSox have won six games and lost 5 (and had two games postponed by rain!). They just finished tonight’s game to make it 7-5 in the month of July thus far. Charlie Zink gets another win (7 innings, 6 hits and 1 run with 5 strikeouts and 2 walks) and the PawSox beat Norfolk 10-3!
* The Futures game was at Yankee Stadium today and the only representative from the Red Sox organization Che-Hsuan Lin was named the Most Valuable Player in the game for hitting a two-run homerun in the seventh inning for the “World Team”. Way to go! (Reports are that he was booed by the New York fans after the game because he wore his Red Sox cap during the on-field interview after the game. Stay classy, New York fans, stay classy.)
No baseball until Thursday and no Red Sox baseball until Friday. Sure, there’s the All Star Game and, admittedly, that should be fun, but with the Sox playing well I prefer to see them playing games that matter in the standings.
