Red Sox game five: So that happened

Okay, so the Daniel Bard as a starter era didn’t exactly start off with a bang.  He isn’t the only starting pitcher in this rotation to not show his best stuff in his 2012 debut.

With the first five games of the season behind them, we’ve now seen all of the starters and not one of them has a win yet.  (The only win of the season, thus far, belongs to reliever Scott Atchison.)  If you’re going to judge a season by the first five games, it’s going to be a long season indeed.

There was a lot of good to take from last night’s loss.  Adrian Gonzalez all three of the Red Sox runs, Dustin Pedroia got three hits and Kevin Youkilis snapped out of his hitless streak with two of his own.  But last night was yet another game where the pitching just couldn’t get it right and if you’re a fan who holds the memories of 2011 freshly in your mind, you are probably having a difficult time seeing how this will improve any time soon.

Bobby Valentine has his work cut out for him.  He knew it coming into this season and Red Sox fans knew it as well.  It might not be easy to ride out the storm that has been the start of the 2012 season but the team and the fans have seen worse so why not just stick around and see where the season leads you?

Today’s game starts at 12:30pm, a less traditional time than most MLB games, so we get afternoon baseball and then a day off before the Red Sox make their way into Fenway for the home opener on Friday the 13th.
