Happy Patriots Day!

Yep, it’s a holiday here in Boston. (And, apparently, in Maine and Wisconsin as well!)

Most of you probably know, in Boston we celebrate Patriots day by overdosing on sports.  At 11am, the only MLB game to begin in the morning starts over at Fenway.  (Today the Sox play the Mariners…I had the chance to see Derek Lowe mow down the Yankees on Patriots Day back in 2002!)

Oh yeah, and there’s some kind of race going on today.  🙂  One of my bosses, Jeffrey, is running.  As are my friend J’s father and sister.  There’s a Red Sox connection there too.  Mike Timlin’s wife Dawn (#19755), Curt Schilling’s wife Shonda (#23171), and Trot Nixon’s wife Kathryn (#18827) are all running this year as well.  You go ladies!

If you like enormous crowds of people…this is the day to be in Boston.  Between the baseball game and the marathon, around 2pm today, Kenmore Square will be a parking lot.  A FUN parking  lot, but a parking lot nonetheless.

Two Patriots Day baseball games for me was good enough.  I’m getting too old to stand in a crowd of people,  unmoving, for a half hour or so.  But even not being there is exciting.  Television coverage is pretty much nothing but the Sox game and the Marathon.

Plus, my office is closed today.  A nice little bonus.  ONE year I had to work on Patriots Day and I brought a little tv in the office.  I ended up just leaving and going home to watch the game anyway!

So I’m up early to get a couple of things done…and at 11am I’ll be enjoying the game and, from there, updates about the marathon.  Looks to be a little cool today (although I’m only going by the way it is around 6am).  Hopefully, the runners get a good day!
