I really had no intentions of live blogging this afternoon – but circumstances presented themselves so that I figured "why not?". I’m home alone, it’s raining and I’ve received more than one email from folks who are getting the Yankees on Fox today instead of the Sox. So, I’m going to live blog. I’m watching the game anyway, right?
Speaking of email – thanks to everyone who has been sending me messages. I try to get back to folks but sometimes I forget. I’m working on that! I really appreciate all the feedback. I’m also going to revamp my links lists over the next day or so to reflect the new blogs some of the visitors here have created – and to add a few more sites that I’ve found.
Kason Gabbard is pitching against Felix Hernandez today. It’s pretty much anyone’s game! See you around 4pm!
.
4:11 – Hey, there’s a game on! Guess they don’t start at 20 past when the game is this late in the afternoon!
4:13 – Thom and Psycho instead of McAsswipe and Buck. YAY!
4:14 – What is this line-up? Coco batting first and Cora second? Coco is out, Cora walks.
4:15 – Papi gets another day at first base. On National television even. Gotta love it!
4:16 – Papi is out looking. Don’t love that.
4:18 – Manny has a 1-2 count. Steve Lyons is speaking quite nicely about him. There’s a switch. Thom Brennaman is joining in. It’s a Manny love-fest, I tell ya!
4:19 – Manny strikes out to end the top of the first.
4:20 – I guess it’s Papi on first, Cora at second and Lowell at third (AGon at short) with Loretta and Youkilis getting the day off. I know Youk had one coming, but I wonder what the thinking is with Loretta?
4:22 – Gabbard is wearing Bronson’s number – 61. He has a 2-1 count on Ichiro. And now Ichiro has an infield hit. S’allright, Kason.
4:24 – Mirabellis is catching Gabbard (I’m a little slow this afternoon-Fox threw me off by not starting at 4:20!). Another hit. Nice way to start the game.
4:27 – Welcome back, Mike Lowell! Double play. Say thank you, Kason.
4:29 – Gabbard brushes back Richie Sexson! Confident kid, isn’t he? Sexson is out. Nice way to get out of the inning. No score at the end of one.
4:32 – One pitch, one out for Trot.
4:34 – REALLY welcome back, Mike Lowell!!!!! Homerun!!! 1-0, Red Sox!!!
4:36 – Wily Mo made quite the quick out.
4:36b – As does Doug Mirabelli.
4:39 – I can’t get over the delight of not listening to McCarver and Buck. It’s heaven.
4:41 – One out…nice catch, Wily Mo.
4:41 – Bernie Williams hit a two-run homerun, Yanks are leading Blue Jays 2-0.
4:42 – Carl Everett thinks he should be on first…home plate ump disagrees. Guess he didn’t get hit. Maybe next time.
4:43 – Happy now, Carl? One out, one on. Hey, Jeannie Zelasko tells me that ARod is dh’ing today. That makes me laugh.
4:44 – Two outs – Mr. Everett stays lonely on first base.
4:45 – I hate those kind of hits. "Dies on the infield grass"…
4:47 – 3-1 count to Jones. Two outs and two on. Come on, Kason, get yourself out of the inning. Dam. Walked the bases loaded with Ichiro up.
4:49 – While Steve Lyons is talking, Fox blasts "Right Now". Good job, Fox.
4:50 – Kason has two strikes on Ichiro. Come on, kid.
4:52 – Dammit. Ichiro gets a hit that knocks in two runs.
4:53 – Some genius in the stands was giving the ‘home run’ signal on Ichiro’s base hit.
4:54 – Come on, Kason…get out of the dam inning.
4:55 – Good job. 2-1 Mariners, at the end of 2.
4:57 – AMAZING catch by Jones to rob AGon of extra bases!
4:58 – Steve Lyons says "You and I have seen better plays" in regard to the catch Coco made against the Mets. Funny, many writers have said the complete opposite…but Steve Lyons has seen better. Well, I guess I needed SOMETHING to complain about today.
5:01 – Coco walks with one out. And then he steals second!
5:02 – Fat lot of good it did. Cora pops it up. Big Papi is up at bat.
5:03 – Big Papi laughs in the face of the shift and knocks in Coco! Guess that steal did work out! 🙂
5:05 – Manny gets a hit as well! Papi’s on third!
5:05b – Ah, here comes the Manny bashing. I knew it wouldn’t be too long before it started. Call the wahmbulance, Thom Brennaman.
5:06 – Lyons mentioned that in the clubhouse Manny is great…so why don’t they shut the he11 up about it?
5:07 – Thom Brennaman is basically saying "WHAT ABOUT THE CHILDREN?" I’ll tell you what, Thom…if I had a kid who played like Manny, I’d be very happy. Trot’s out. Bottom of the third, coming up with the score tied.
5:10 – Beltre gets a hit…but the infield comes through with a double play!
5:12 – Kason gets a strike out to end the inning. 2-2 after 3 innings.
5:16 – Mike Lowell strikes out. Ah, well.
5:17 – I’m late with this, but the Jays got a run back. 2-1 in the fourth inning.
5:18 – Two outs with Doug Mirabelli up. That was quick. :-/
5:21 – Slight pause while I make myself a quickie dinner.
5:22 – Hey, Kason already has two outs…it’s tough to use the laptop while trying to cook – especially when the tv is in a different room!
5:24 – Kason is out of the inning…good for him! (Oh, the thrills of a live blog that doesn’t give specifics, huh?)
5:27 – AGon has a 2-0 count (I have roughly 15 minutes before I head back to the kitchen). AGon is out.
5:29 – Nice play by Richie Sexson, the official flag pole of the "Ladies, In Honor of Toronto Waitress" thread. (Old Red Sox Fan Forum reference).
5:31 – 1-2-3 inning. Score still tied.
5:36 – That Jones rookie is killing us. No outs, one on. Ichiro up.
5:36b – Eric Hinske has tied up the Jays/Yanks game. Thank you, Eric Hinske.
5:39 – Kid has a full count on Ichiro. Ichiro struck out but Jones stole second. One out, man on second. I hate that. Nice work on Ichiro, though.
5:43 – Nice out. Jones still on second. Okay, Mr. Gabbard, get out of the inning.
5:43b – Isn’t "Fractured, cracked rib" redundant? Just checking.
5:44 – 3-0 count on Beltre. (But wait, Fox is taking a moment to Beltre-bash…) 3-1.
5:46 – Sweet strike out, Kason. End of five, score still tied. Come on, guys, let’s give this kid a win!
5:51 – I love how in one breath they insult Manny and the next they compliment him. Just to cover themselves. Manny strikes out…and we get Julian Tavarez and Jonathan Papelbon chatting in the bullpen.
5:53 – Seriously, if they don’t stop picking on Manny…my phone just rang. It’s my mother, who is at a restaurant and watching the game without sound, wanting to know why they "keep showing Manny".
5:55 – Steve Lyons just said that Manny isn’t a good left fielder. Thank you, Steve, for showing the world how little you know.
5:56 – For the love of freaking God, people, ENOUGH with Manny! Millions of people REALLY DON’T CARE! By the way, Sox inning is over…still tied.
5:57 – Time for some blue. Jays are beating the Yanks 4-2 in the top of the sixth thanks to a 2-run, Lyle Overbay double. Good times, good times.
6:00 – Hooray! It’s time, on Fox, to bash the Blue Jays!
6:01 – Bad, bad call on first. Lowell had that runner thrown out. Ortiz never left the bag. if Brennaman says that Ponsino is in a ‘great position to make the call’ I’m going to scream. I don’t care where he was, he made the wrong call and Brennaman is too much of a **** to say it. At least Lyons said it.
6:04 – Great. Everett gets a hit and Batshit Tavarez is coming in. I aree with Lyons, I liked Tito letting the kid come out in this inning. If it wasn’t for that horrible call at first, he’d probably still be in the game.
6:07 – Two on, one out. Batshit pitching. Wait, it could be time for Fox to bash the Red Sox fans for booing Tavarez. I’m waiting…
6:08 – Well, between a bad throw and a horrible call (no, I won’t let it go…the Mariners stole this run) the Mariners take the lead. 3-2 Seattle with one out and two still on.
6:09 – Oh, yes…and Damon scored on a balk. Jays leading 4-3.
6:11 – Why didn’t Brennaman tell Lyons that Betancourt put his life on the line to HAVE a life, NOT just to play baseball. God, he IS stupid, isn’t he?
6:12 – I’m becoming irritated with this game. Tavarez walks the bases loaded. I need to remember that this game isn’t that big a deal at all.
6:13 – HEY It’s time to talk about ARod!!!! Struck out three times today. So sad.
6:13b – Nice double play to save Batshit from my boot in his behind. Good work guys. Get his run back and don’t let the kid get a loss today.
6:16 – Wily Mo is out already. Doug Mirabelli and his stellar .194 average is up. And he’s out.
6:18 – The throwing error was less to blame for run number 3 than the bad call by the ump. I know bad calls happen all the time, but they usually don’t decide the outcome of the game. Here’s hoping that it doesn’t decide today’s game.
6:18 – Let me get this straight. Sexson gets pulled off the bag and the runner is out, but Papi DOESN’T get pulled off the bag and the runner is safe? I get it now. It must be opposite day in Seattle.
6:21 – Bottom of the seventh, Mariners up 3-2.
6:23 – I could listen to Papelbon **** chat all day. I really could. I don’t know why he gets so much grief from non Red Sox fans.
6:25 – Ooh, they’re going to play more conversation from the bullpen. Yes, that was Timlin in the background, Brennaman. These guys crack themselves up.
6:27 – One out, one on and Beltre up. Come on, Julian. Be as entertaining on the mound as you are in the bullpen.
6:28 – HGHiambi has tied the Blue Jays game with a double. Success through chemicals. Gotta love it.
6:29 – The home plate umpire is p1ssing me off with these last minute calls of time out.
6:30 – Well THAT was ugly. Ball falls between Coco and AGon. Nice work, fellas. Two on, one out.
6:31 – SO much for that bad pitch he was going to throw to Richie Sexson, huh Psycho? 0-1 count.
6:33 – HEY, who had 6:33pm for the time when they brought up Tavarez punching the phone in 2004?
6:34 – 1-2 count and Brennaman and Lyons are basically begging for Tavarez to go batshit.
6:35 – And we have a mispronunciation! Rudy SEE AHN YEZ. Good lord, don’t these guys practice saying these names before the games?
6:35b – I love that how slowly Tavarez is pitching is making Brennaman and Lyons crazy. Love it.
6:36 – Batshit walked the bases loaded. One out. Peachy.
6:37 – Stupid Blue Jays just walked in a run. Yankees lead 5-4.
6:39 – Great, two runs score. 5-2 Mariners in the seventh with one out. Two still on and Jurassic Carl up.
6:40 – At the very least, I can’t blame the earlier bad call at first on the score. AGon throws out Carl. Two outs, men on first and third.
6:41 – For those following the Slappy saga…he just struck out again.
6:43 – A nice Trot Nixon ends the inning. 5-2.
6:45 – New pitcher for the Mariners: Lowe. Let’s see Coco and Alex get on base for Big Papi.
6:47 – That rookie is killing us. Killing us. As Brennaman says "Two up, two down". So much for my Coco, Alex, Papi hopes.
6:49 – Psycho tells me the Sox have 29 come from behind victories this year. Thirty is a nice, round number.
6:50 – Boston’s 8th is over and, God help us, I think Rudy Seanez is coming in. Great, show all of America how much these two don’t deserve to be in our bullpen.
6:56 – Steve Lyons said nice things about the Red Sox fans. And he was even right! (Said we appreciate hard work and the effort.)
6:57 – Seanez has one out. I’m trying not to focus on it.
6:58 – This Adam Jones kid is killing me. KILLING me. He has another hit. One out, one on and Ichiro is up.
6:59 – Well, at least they got another out and didn’t let a run score.
7:01 – Was Seanez TRYING to throw it over Doug’s head?
7:03 – Nice way to get out of the inning, Rudy. Last chance, fellas. 5-2 Mariners.
7:06 – Putz is on the mound. Thanks, I’ll be here all week.
7:08 – Well, Manny won’t be starting the rally…Nor will Trot Nixon.
7:10 – Mr Double is looking at 0-2 right now.
7:11 – End of the game, Sox lose 5-2. Well, I have to admit, Gabbard did better than I expected. I said yesterday I predicted the Sox leave Seattle with two wins and a loss…and I still think that’s what is going to happen. Thanks for following along, folks, have a great night!
