Reasons to be Cheerful, Part 3

I’m a proud member of Red Sox Nation. Not the group that pays money to carry a plastic card that reads “Red Sox Nation” (although I do hold a membership there – hey some of the benefits don’t suck), but being a part of a fan base that has been through as much as we have and who have continued to stand behind their team. We were rewarded in 2004 and 2007, and that puts us in a different position than we’re used to being in. Yet, I’m still proud. In spite of the bandwagoners and naysayers.

Things could always be worse. Hank Steinbrenner could own our team.

“Go anywhere in America and you won’t see Red Sox hats and jackets, you’ll see Yankee hats and jackets. This is a Yankee country. We’re going to put the Yankees back on top and restore the universe to order.”

I can’t decide which amuses me more:  The total arrogance that the universe wants the Yankees to be “back on top” (Hank knows the Yankees haven’t won the World Series since 2000, right?) or his delusional view that you don’t see any Red Sox hats and jackets throughout America.

Someone tell me honestly, has Hank been living underground for the last decade?

I suppose he’s probably just trying to stir things up. He thinks he’s being edgy and kicking “the rivalry” into gear. But John Henry showed him how silly he looked and how futile his shit-stirring attempts were by giving out a free membership to “Red Sox Nation”. Good for him.

He’s whined about the Mitchell Report, he’s whined about Red Sox Nation and he’s slammed Joe Torre. Yankees fans should be so very proud.

Thank you, God, for bringing us the Trio and Theo instead of the fools they have in the Bronx.
